Ok so I got a 10 gallon and filled up with the water from the origonal RCS tank and then transfered about 50 shrimp over. Now the puzzleing thing is, they all died the next day. Any analysis as to why?

I think shrimp are pretty sensitive to contamination. Copper is especially toxic to inverts.

RCS don't necessarily need a lot of space, but they do need some filtration. I have a small colony in a breeder net that houses some small anubias that has been thriving for the past several months. When they get crowded, I just scoop some out to feed to the main tank, and everyone is happy.

I agree on filtration, but copper also could have been responsible. If the tank ever has been treated with anything containing copper, there could be residual amounts in the tank. I think some algaecides have copper.

Got some rtc by mistake. They came from Mike (dangerchicken) when he payed it forward to he by hooking me up with two marbled crays. One of which was holding! Little baby crays everywhere now! Super cool invert. Just not as colorful as rtc, they are equally as cool as the crays.

Good luck keeping them I enjoy watching them clean stuff.

Do you have any other tanks going?
If so, take that sponge out of the RCS tank and run it in one of your established tanks for a week or two. Then move it back to the tank for the RCS and add the shrimp. Make sure that they have plenty to eat, algae, algae wafers, blanched spinach, and some protein too - but not all of that at once.

Of course make sure that your temperature and such are good, plenty of places to hide, etc. I shouldn't need to say anything about dechlorinater, but of course, make sure to do that too.

I don't have any other sponge in my tanks....but I used my origonal tank water to fill up their new home....
