Question: pre-mixing Safe

I have read that a few of us pre-mix Safe by mixing it with water in an empty 500ml Prime bottle. Can any of you who do this please tell me how much Safe to add to the bottle?

Thanks!

2 1/2 tsp would get you treating a gallon per ml..

Hmmmm..pats mix makes it 10 gallons per ml of treated water.. I guess its down to preference but I could adapt that technique as well.. My question is, is there a danger for pre mixed safe that stays in there for long? 5000 gallons per bottle would take pretty long to consume unless you've got a fish room that matches the amount of water changes you need done..

Yes, there is a danger. If you read the whole thread, you'll see that mentioned. I don't think anyone knows the likelihood of the solution losing its effectiveness, however.

I pre-mix in an old Prime bottle (500 ml) for my smaller tanks.

I mix 5 tsp of Safe into the bottle, which makes each capful (5 ml) treat 10 gallons. makes it easy for my 5, and 20 gallon tank.

I use distilled water for mixing, that way there isn't anything to interact with the Safe powder and by using it at this strength I go thru a bottle much quicker so no worries about losing potency (but don't think that's likely anyway).

for larger tanks I just use it dry.

I am still premixing and it takes me a few months to go through all the bottles I make.
No problems with it yet.
I mix it the way I do so that its a cap full for 50 gallons. Or at least thats what my poor brain things.
No problems so far but I am one that always over treats.

I also mark my bottles.
I mark it safe so I know and I mark the date I
mixed it so I use the oldest first.
I have 4 of the 500 ml bottles and some smaller ones. I usually wait until I am out and then mix all of them at the same time.

Oh, and I use tap water.
1st 1/2 of the bottle I use hot water and then shake. Then I top off with cold.

Good idea to make it easier to dose smaller tanks. Why didn't I think of this? Head slap!

I just do it because it's the same as the instructions on the bottle. Just in case my
old timers kicks in again.
