So shortly before the May meeting I was seriously considering a tropheus tank. After Klaus' presentation I was sold. I decided to sell my frontosa and work on locating a group of tropheus. I researched variants, surfed a few forums, and bugged Sarah almost every day. I set up a 28 gallon bowfront to cycle and begin growing algae for a QT/growout tank. There were a few variants I was really interested in, but they were tough to locate.
I was getting frustrated about not being able to locate the fish I wanted, but I tried to be patient. A few days before the June meeting I found a member on ECC who had 24 juveniles of a tropheus variant I was very interested in. Problem was he didn't ship. I was weighing all the options of how I could get the fish, but couldn't come up with anything easy. I was getting desperate and hoping for a miracle, and low and behold; Blondefishgal.
Alesia rocks for many reasons, but she outdid herself this time. She took time out of her day to pick the fish up for me and bring them down to MD at the June meeting. For the few days leading up to the meeting, I was like a kid anticipating Christmas day. I would get giddy at the though of filling my tank with tropheus.
So I was able to get 24 Tropheus Moorii 'Lufubu,' also known as the purple rainbow. I also ordered 6 T. duboisi 'Halembe' from Dave through the group buy. All the juvies made it fine from NJ and TX, and I was happy as could be. Within 5 minutes of releasing these guys in the tank, they were grazing on algae. I had been growing algae for 2 weeks with a light on 24/7. Withink 24 hours, the algae was 90% gone. The next day most of the remaining had been cleaned off.
Here are a few pictures of the new guys in their home. Thanks again Alesia, I owe you big time. They are eating well and doing great.
