Pseudotropheus sp. "Polit" spawn

I noticed a small female holding last night while I was working on the tank. When I went to strip her, she spit nine perfect little fry.

I can't seem to upload photos this morning but will try again later.

Polit are great little mbuna (don't they have a new name?) and I love the light / dark blue on the males.

I think the largest spawns when I kept them (back in Cali) were about 20-25.

Good job!

Have you BAP'd them yet? :)

Congrats Christine. I've always wanted some of them but never found them available when I had tank space. Mo found a group of 5 at HOT. They were 1M and 4F which then became one male. :/

I kept and bred them in a 2'x2'x1' tank back in Cali. The key to managing aggression seemed like keeping a good M/F ratio (I think I had 2M/6F) and packing them in with another mbuna (I think I kept mine with Metriaclima estherae / orange zebras - probably another 8 of them). Tank had a bunch of PVC pipes and a big dump filter.
