Ps. Acei x Ruby Red Peacock?

So I have breeding groups of WC Ps. "Acei" -White tail (1M/2F) and Ruby red peacocks (1M/4F) in a 40 Breeder. They've been getting along fine for a couple of months. At least 1 or 2 of the peacock females seem to be always holding and while I haven't gotten the white tails to breed yet, the male is always trying.

A couple of weeks ago, the male ruby red got sick and I separated him. I noticed last night that one of the red females was holding. I stripped the hoppers and put them in a basket.

I suspect that they are from the peacock male that was removed around new years, but was wondering if it was possible that they are from the mbuna male.?.

I was going to just toss the fry back in the tank, but figured I had an extra breeder net, so what the heck. I'm going to keep the fry separated until I can see how they turn out.

Anyone ever heard of these fish crossing?

Could be some interesting OBs if they were a hybrid. OB peacocks have become an "acceptable" hybrid. Lets grow em out and see.

Ive kept mbuna and Peacocks together for years with out a problem.
Could it be possible that one of the females is actually a sub dom male in drag. lol

I left the fry net in the parent's tank (somewhat intentionally). Despite a bit of crushed coral in the middle of the bottom of the net, all but two were eaten through the bottom yesterday while I was at work. If the last two survive, I'll raise them separately to see how they come out.

But as Pat suggests, I suspect that they're straight peacock.
