plugging bulkheads

i plan on plugging my 210 this afternoon. 4 total holes drilled bottom overflows.. i want to plug these(already have threadxthread bulkheads) and run my filter intakes into the overflows. From what i have read so far it looks like my best option is to get a threaded plug to run into the internal thread of the bulkhead from the inside of the tank using a paste in the threading rather than glue? Does this sound ok to those experiences or is there a better way?

I did this on some 20L's... one with teflon tape, one without.. the one without leaked.

The thread i was reading suggested teflon paste over tape, aquarium sealant or pvc glue. We have tape at the house but if the paste is better ill buy it. I just dont want a pool in the basement :p

You definitely want to use either pipe dope or Teflon tape. If you use dope make sure its one that is OK for use on plastics and if you use tape don't use the cheap stuff get the better quality pink tape.

210 thats a lot of pressure than a 20L
Is this tank Acrylic or glass?
I plug both types before
I use cut Acrylic sheet and acrylic cement for my acrylic 220 & 180 tanks (not expensive)
Also for my glass u use cut pieces of glass and aquarium glue (my glass tank was not a 210 though)

There's some different types of paste that will work as a sealant, but, yea ... Teflon is the way to go. I use Oatey's FasTape, and it works better than Teflon for me. It's a touch more expensive.

Make sure you think about which way you're winding it -- it'll pull off if you do it wrong. Start at the top of the male part and wrap it clockwise. Overlap it 3-4 times, and make sure it stays flat.

Some people will have a piece of glass cut, perhaps 2" by 2" or so, and use aquarium sealant to cover the holes. Just smoosh it on from the inside. This works well, provided you glue well. I don't like the permanence of it -- you can maybe pry the glass off and scrape the glue away, then use it normally... but, it's so much easier to just pull the darn plugs. :)

I went through this exact ordeal in January with my 210. I used these schedule 80 bulkheads for the bottom and cheapo slip bulkheads for the top holes. It was a nightmare finding plugs that would turn more than once around into the threaded bulkheads (went through 3 brands). I tried teflon spray and tape and still got a leak or two each time. Ended up putting a bead of silicon where the plug met the bulkhead. No leaks after that.

Hmm. I just bought some plugs and rectorseal pipe thread sealant containing ptfe good for abs and pvc. Up to 10,000 psi. Hope this stuff is ok. Says lead free, so thats a step in the right direction i guess lol.

Trying by hand i am going through the same thing with my smaller bulkhead. Larger one screws in fine. :/
