Pellet size for 3" to 4" cichlids

I'm currently using 1.5mm pellets for my cichlids. When should I start buying larger pellets and is there any drawback not switching right away?

I used to use 3mm pellets on 4" cichlids. Now I use 1.5mm on 8" cichlids. They seem healthy, breed occasionally, and never get a big belly because they ate too much too soon.

I've done that too...the smaller pellet make them work more for their food and sift some out of the sand etc seems like they are going fine

If any drawbacks it would be switching to soon. Stick with smaller pellets as long as you can. If the pellets are to large they have to be chewed up which results in more mess. In my experience the brand name matters too. For whatever reason I can feed my fish a medium sized omega one or hikari pellet with no mess. When I try NLS of a similar size (actually slightly smaller) they have made more of a mess for me.

1 mm pellets can go a long way it seems. Most of my larger fish are about 5-6" and they are still interested in the small pellets. I do have a 12" oscar however that doesn't even notice the tiny pellets.

I wanted to also ask what the general opinion was of Ken's 1.5mm cichlid pellets? I've been using it for a couple of months, after my last tub of NLS ran out, and the only difference I see is there is more money in my pocket.

I'm up for a re-order of pellets soon and was wondering if there were any negative concerns with ken's pellets before I ordered. If nothing major, i'll be stocking up as soon as their chlorimax is back in stock.
