Ohmigosh -- I have rainbow cichlid wrigglers!!!!

Woo hoo! Last night, the parents were eating the eggs and I was disappointed, but hoping that maybe they were just weeding out the "bad" ones. But they seemed to have wiped the rock clean. Weirdly, tho, they were both still guarding the rock and they had also seemed to have done some rearranging of gravel and plants right by the rock. This morning, I looked vveeerrrry closely and I have wrigglers!!!!! I am so excited. The pit is in a very good place, just to the side of the rock inbetween several foreground plants. I can keep an eye on it an it's out of the main traffic of the tank and far from the intakes. I can't tell how many there are. But I can clearly see some very tiny movement in the gravel. I'm very proud!!!!

So help me. When do I start feeding them???

What food do you feed them?

How long before they are "free swimming"?

I assume I try to disturb the tank as little as possible. Do I forgo a water change or just be sure to do it on the other side of the tank? Nitrates are low . . .

It seems like lots of peeps down here use Ken's Fish food. I too have use Hikari first bites and I'm using it now. Is kens as good as advertised and is it locally available?

Wrigglers still wriggling! Mom and Dad relocated but I couldn't see any more wrigglers. But Mom and Dad still seemed to be guarding something and had a nice little open space under some driftwood. Turns out I wasn't looking in quite the right place. This morning I saw the wrigglers all piled up at the bottom of a plant. Lots of them!!! They have very big eyes and do seem to look more like fish than before. Boy, no wonder they're called wrigglers -- huh? Lots of wriggling! It's been three days. How much longer before they're "fish"?

I'm so excited!
