Newly Scaped Tank

Big thanks to some of the members of GWAPA that stayed after the meeting on Saturday to help put this together and to Kris Weinhold for taking the photo.

Its a 75 gallon tank, with pressurized CO2, ADA Aquasoil for substrate, I will have to work up the plant list later. There are no current inhabitants but likely will be a school of small tetras or possibly some apisto's or both, and some whiptail catfish.

dude that looks sick!!! cant wait to see it full and stocked. I also liked the big tank in your office.

Yeah, I plan to change the background to a solid black and change the tubing to the filters to blend in with the background. I am really excited to see how this turns out.

Looks good and only thing i was going to say was the background but with it black it should look even better.

I have reeeaaaally been thinking of making my 46gl BF into a planted tank....

Lose the background and your hardscape clashes a little bit, the rocks are spread out to evenly and to linear, and lacks open space

Looks ok though just my opinion, dont take it the wrong way I'm just picky when it comes to planted tanks

Really nice! I'm going to try to recruit some GWAPA help with my new scape too. GWAPA has several incredibly talented scapers.

I like it, but the wood is pointed in the wrong direction... the direction of the wood stood out to me so much I had to go look at how I put mine in my tank - every last piece in my tanks has its base on the right and goes up to the left.

But, I really do like that tank.

You are just looking at your tank from the wrong side.

Heeeee!!! :D

Hard scape looks good Rob. Glad to hear you'll be losing the background, I didn't want to say it and figured you already knew anyhow. ;)

Can't wait to see it grow in!

Ha! Lot you know... none of my tanks have a "wrong" side... Even the painted backs look good... lol

I don't think I'll flip to the green side, but I have to admit these heavy planted tanks are extremely cool. I agree about the background.

Wow. This is a harsh group!
So everybody can calm down about it I'm cutting the black background for Rob tomorrow. Sheesh! Like we didn't give him enough of a hard time about it when we couldn't bear to look at how we were doing because of the eyesore stuck to the back glass! LOL!

Funny the comment about being the wrong direction. Completely subjective! It is interesting that you would say that, especially since I know you're not from the East. Like Far East. And no, that's not a slam... it has to do with how culturally we're trained to find "peace" (for lack of a better term in this illustration) in things that flow from left to right... like how we read. Cultures that read from right to left, or up and down have different senses of what is "right" to the eye. Please don't get me in a discussion about design and layout and flow and all these sorts of things! I'll go on for days!!!

And who gets to say what is right or wrong?? There is no right or wrong... just whatever you like :) The only one who has to live with this tank is Rob. Well, and Lori should she venture into the man cave ;)

LOL did you just say the painted side on your aquarium looks good! It must take about 300,000 watts of light to see the fish and that's only because they're jumping out. However, I have one tank that is painted black on all sides and grey on the glass lid and it looks great.

I couldn't agree more. That's the true beauty of this hobby, you can aquascape a tank however it gives you enjoyment. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks - just the owner.

Wow....I have to admit I wasnt expecting alot of the responses on this forum, as I expected most of the critique to come from within GWAPA. If I had tried to take the wood right to left I would have had to turn the piece around and then we would have been looking at the back of some solid branches instead of seeing the character of the piece and its many intricate smaller branches. As for the open spaces there are actually quite a few that are not going to be evident until the tank has time to grow in....if anything I cant wait to see a school of tetras swimming through that driftwood. The background also is causing quite a bit of distraction to the hardscape so its difficult to judge the depth perception of the tank, as the hardscape is anything but linear in this tank. All that said, I am glad that people feel comfortable enough to make their opinions known, and I look forward to seeing some of your work on the forum in the near future for the membership to benefit from and appreciate

Thanks
Rob

Yes, the painted side of my tank looks good! My favorite is sorta slate, many layers of different color spray paint... hubby did one that sorta looks like storm clouds... so, :p

Donkey, it's my inate sense of fungshway or whatever it is called... actually, I can read upside down and right to left in English (small bits not whole books lol). It bugs me when something that should be centered is off, even by a quarter of an inch. To me, that tank is flowing "upstream"

Itrepeter - I do really like it, even if it is backwards for me, lol. And, I wouldn't give up detail like that just to turn it, either.

Since I helped Rob scape this tank, I wanted to point out that the picture you see is only half done. Not only is the tank not filled yet, so the plants that are in there aren't really visible, but the plants haven't grown in to soften areas of the hardscape, or fill in their own sight-lines. This is where I pester Rob to post another picture of the tank filled. ;-)

I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out!
