Tony
Alligator Snapping Turtle/Past Pres
So went to Tropical Fish World yesterday to take advantage of their awesome 50% off African sale this weekend and ran into Andrew. By then, they had sold a ton of fish, but one tank caught my eye. It had a group of 2.5" juvies labeled hexichromis something.../trout cichlid.
We talked a bit about stocking my soon-to-be-setup 180 gallon and Andrew showed me a pic out of the Tepot book. They're very cool looking fish, so I decided to grab up a group of 6 of them to grow out.
I threw them in a 20 high with some other, slightly larger haps and am really excited about them.
I looked them up this morning on the Interwebs and could only find Champsochromis caeruleus. I think Andrew mentioned a reclassification when we spoke yesterday, but C. caeruleus seems most commonly synonomous with "Trout cichlid" and the description seems to match what I have.
I know that they get pretty big; 12"+ in an aquarium, but I don't care... still stoked. Will be nice to have a pair swimming around my 180 with the big boys.
Anyone have any experience with these guys or C. spilorhynchus? C. spilorhynchus is a bit taller and shorter, but other than that I believe that they are pretty similar fish.
Thanks in advance.
(I'll post some pics of the juvies when I get a chance.... not much to look at now, other than a crazy, "torpedo" shape, but will be neat to keep the thread updated as they grow pretty rapidly.)
