what kind of substrate are you using?

i guess i should have mentioned some of my tank specs..:

*for the 125:

i used two #40 bags of flora max as the bottom layer
10-12? bags of eco
mourish of potash and dolomites at the very bottom

is working pretty well :D i keep too many large plants that creat quite some shade but growth is steady

the lights on both tanks are from catalina, they are T5HO, it has 6 bulbs but i only use two from 6:30 to 9:00 and two come on for 2 hours around 12:30.

i don't fertilize too much, only occasional iron

fish in this tank includes: clown plecos, bushy nose plecos, rhino-marble sailfin pleco, boesmani rainbows, unidentified rainbows, madagascar rainbows, DD black angelfish, strawberry apistos, blue/green goodeids, montezuma swordtails, banjo catfishes, and bumblebee kittys...tylomania snails, coris, i think thats it:cool:
plants in this tank include: anubia nana, anubia coffefolia, anubia barterii, anubia lanceolata, crypt moehlmani, crypt cordata, crypt cordata var. , crypt nurii, crypt wendtii green, crypt wendtii red, crypt balansae var. , crypt unknowns sps.., trident java, narrow leaf java, windelov java, staurogyne sp. bihar, blixa aubertii, echinodorus aflame, e. sp. jaguar, melon sword, stargrass, aponogeton sp., hygrophila pinnatifida, Vallisneria sp., red root floaters and giant duckweed (probably more im forgetting now..)

for the 36 bow:

substrate is a mix of : dolomites and mourish of potash bottom, peat moss, 1 bag of flourite, one bag of eco and one bag of amazonia =D works great so far! the amazonia keeps the ph low and the plants seem to be getting what they need

light is a 3 24W T5HO light from catalina on from 6:30 to ~9:00 pm

fish includes: nannacara anomala pair, group of coral red pencilfish, pigmy cories, ottos, calico bushynose, and two snails

plants includes: anubia heterophila, anubia nana narrow, anubia nana petite, anubia lanceolata, anubia sp. gasser, crinum calamistratum, eleocharis sp., eleocharis montevidensis, nymphaea sp, nymphaea micrantra, and floating watersprite

"Giant duckweed"? It kinda looks like what I have in my tank but it was sold as "frogbit." Can we get a better photo?

spirodella polirza, Giant duckweed is about 3 times bigger than regular duckweed and has a pretty pinkish color.. Frogbit is like the size of a quarter or so and is all green. i don't have any to compare right now, my 75 was infested with "regular" duckweed and so i got pissed and trashed all the floating plants:(

Wow! Sick planted tanks. Sort of makes me want to ditch the canopy and jack up my lights on my 45 and try some immersed plants.

Thanks for posting the shots!

Ditch them!!i don't have super high lights and was growing stuff even with the spiral CF.bulbs.

i hated canopies because it would get so dirty so quick..calcium build up and stuff...

Sweet.

Missed this thread when it was posted somehow, but really like your aesthetic sense and taste in species. I have a 48" Catalina on my 75, great light, great price and moonlights to boot as well as being loaded with whatever type of bulb you desire. Always available on Ebay as BuyItNow items.

By the way, how are/did you make out with those N. anomala fry?

aaarrghhh. how is it you don't have a spec of algae? your tanks are great. I'm still battling BBA like crazy in my tank. I have Co2 and got some new lights and it's gotten worse. have no idea what parameter needs tweaking . . .
