Nice read. Certainly a fish I have never given much thought, and had no idea they had dedicated parenting behavior.

I recently got three dozen from Tropical Lagoon for about $3. I was expecting about two thirds of them to die off, but they all survived. I quarantined them in a yard tub with lots of tannins, then brought them inside and treated them with a de worming agent. They're still in quarantine.
The wild types in the photoshoot died not long after, from skinny disease (that's why I used the de worming agent on the new ones.)
I have some fry from the spawn in the photoshoot, which I'm growing out now, with some rosy barbs and white clouds in my show tank. All wildtype.
