Metynnis sp. "Black"

Actually this new import has no valid species name yet (according to the importer).

So, they are sold as Metynnis sp. "Black".

Also sold as "Black Silver Dollars". They do change color on a whim.

From Colombia.

Anybody have info on these?

Can you show a link or something? I do not know who mab is on this forum.

I noticed when they are doing well they get a partial black stripe behind the gill plate; not all the way from the top of the flank to the bottom (that is why I mentioned partial black stripe).

When aggressive or stressed they get more black & the partial black stripe turns bright silver/white just behind the gill plate. You can see that in the pics above.

When I get my camera back I will try and get a snap shot of when that marking behind the gill plate turns black. Oh, the head gets a subtle golden color when they are in neutral coloration too.

Strange species!
