Got these from last month's auction. I plan on breeding them to make Tyrannochromis food. :p

Any idea on the species?

Some sort of Pseudo/Peacock hybrids. I just saw the same type of fishes at the Jersey Shore auction. As good as feeders!!!!!!!!!!!

Not evey OB cichlid is a Peacock!
OB's are found naturally in the Lake and when I was veiwing the first picture I was thinking one of the nice yellow Metriclima zebra's from Lions Cove,,but then looking at the second picture and seeing the reddish coloration then I was thinking a cross.
Metriclima zebra from Lions Cove would look similar to these young fish in that the males will not be OB,and would be yellowish at that age, while the females would be OB.
This is the best "guess" I can give you.
What were they sold to you as?

Cheers,Larry

They were labeled at the auction as OB peacocks. I didn't check the bag before I bid when they came up... I thought I got a great deal on OB peacocks until I looked at the bag and saw they were mbuna.

A couple of the folks from the thread are just busting my balls because they were sitting around me (and promptly laughing at me) when I got them.

I'm not upset at all, I talked to the person who entered it into the auction and it was a pure accident as he isn't normally a Malawi guy. They were also a club donation anyway, so I have absolutely no problem with taking them home.

I intend on cramming them in a 10 and breeding them for feeders for my predator haps.

Well, OK then I guess you have your answer.
I guess no one cares about their reputation!
If I had an accident like this I would not even tell anyone,,,just feed them off.
To bad about getting hosed on the fish,,,,not so sure about raising and breeding them for feeders,,,,that is a long and tank consuming practice.

Yeah, you may be right Larry. I have a bunch of tanks taken up right now with proper mbuna, peacock and hap fry growing out.

I wasn't sure if they were a specific species, so I posted it up here. With confirmation that they are hybrids, I'll probably just feed them to something or give them to someone else who wants to tank on breeding them for feeders. I just need to make sure that they do not "get out" into the club and start getting passed around.

Any of the new world folks who were talking about setting up a breeder colony for their jags, dempseys, pikes, (insert giant mean fish here), shoot me a PM and they can have these fish.
