I walked back into my house from running errands just in time to witness a 5" yellow tail acei flying through the air. Had I been been a foot closer to the tank I would have been able to catch him.
He landed on a shelf near the tank on top of a blanket so his fall was padded. I grabbed him and put him back in the tank. Seems to be doing okay. The opening he jumped through was about 1".
Crazy. Glad I was here to save him before one of my cats found him.

Good save. I've been able to save jumpers on a few occasions. Actually found a swordtail once that was mostly dry and covered in lint from the carpet. Put him back in the tank and he survived for a couple of months until he jumped out again.

Wow, that IS lucky!

At one point I noticed that whenever I fed the tank with my hatchets, one would usually try to jump......but when I was on travel for work and my husband fed them, he never had that problem. Never figured out what the difference was.
