Are you looking to trade in a big fish or get store credit for fry? Where are you located?

I tried to set up a deal with Mike and Mark from HOT in fact they told my roomie we had an arrangement I was going to let em have anything and everything I have and ever would have at 2.00 per fish in trade value no matter what species. I even agreed to grow out to 1 inch come time to actually follow through, it was nothing more than empty promises. Guess i failed to get in cool enough with them.

I didn't like my experience at HOT either. I drove an hour to the store with confirmation on a fish I was interested in. When arrived an hour later they show me a total different species and I was shock as it was already confirm. Mike or mark (guy with the beer stomach) said opps sorry "there's nothing I can do". I left and drove an hour home..

Folks I get that you guys are not pleased with HOT but the are a club sponsor. That being said post about your dislike of HOT are better off in a private chat. They have been very good to this club and I would not like that good kindness withdrawn by a unhappy customers.

They've been great club sponsors...

PS If you're in one of the handful of remaining LFS in the Baltimore-DC area, please make sure they've got CCA collateral (a poster, some cards, etc.), are aware of the club and the positive things that we're trying to do. Too often LFS view clubs by their least common denominators (i.e. people who want everything for nothing in return). It only reinforces bad (and I hope erroneous for most members) stereotypes when we crap on a business for selling for more than our auctions or you can buy online.

I am most likely going to Rick's this week. I will talk to him because we are pretty close and, quite frankly, he's really nice to me.

Prince and dog, how a LFS treats CCA as a club entity means nothing on the grand scale of things after all that is the smartest advertising dollars spent by any sponsor knowing there will be a return on their investment from fish keepers who are already vested in the hobby. It is how individuals who claim no "known" affiliations are treated while in store that tells the real story of who and what that LFS is about. IF any sponsor reads our posts and as a result strives to improve their service or public relations, then I am guessing they have gained valuable insight to the mind of their client base. Conversely, our ability to speak and share with each other in the public forum we pay to participate in has provided the small guy the individual who means nothing to some retailers a voice that does mean something for once. Why would you seek to silence that in any of us? Sponsors are not CCA customers they sponsor in order to gain business from us and they get it whether we like them or not at times. Personally, I have spent nearing the 2,000.00 mark at my nearest LFS which we are talking about in this thread. I will spend more when I have to.

While I understand that some have not had positive experiences at HOT, they are a club sponsor, and a valuable one at that. They are one of the few LFS still in business that actually wants to have a relationship with the CCA. The facts of the matter are that the CCA is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit organization. We can only exist if we have people who are willing to offer their time to run things and a source of income to have a budget to be able to offer something back to our members. How do we get this income to operate? Memberships is the largest factor (and the fact that half the people complaining on this thread ARE NOT MEMBERS is troubling) and sponsorships come in second. There are other avenues that the club brings in money (raffles, auction splits, events, etc.) but all of these are driven off of membership and sponsorship. All I ask is that everyone try to look at the big picture when offering their input on topics like this.

At one point, there were quite a few LFS that catered to the advanced hobbyist, but no more. Scales? Gone. Tropical Fish World? Gone. Exotic Aquatics? Gone. Aquarium Center? Gone. Think about what you really want - PetSmart and Petco as your ONLY local source of aquarium goods or a few LFS that have to stay in business somehow.

All I'm saying is that how LFS treat the CCA matters and should matter to our members.

I don't know the arrangement that you had (or thought you had) for them to buy your fish but that they even entertain buying fish is somewhat of a anomaly these days!

LFS are indeed businesses and businesses with an alarmingly high rate of going out of business, CCA sponsorship or otherwise. When we have a couple (!) left in the region that go out of their way to be supportive - give members discounts, let us put up flyers, donate stuff, donate gift cards, etc. - lets publicly recognize them for the positive things that they do and not bash them... lest they reconsider their support.

You know I get what both dog and Jon have said in their last comments. I agree if someone hasn't paid their dues they probably should be more limited as to the threads they are allowed to participate in and comment on in the forum. Though I think you missed my point dog, my point was the entertaining of arranging a "for trade" deal with me for my fish was a lead on, a falsehood, all thumbs up till time to do the deal and then run the other way. Dishonest in other words. Most of my original fresh water purchases, my mistakes were purchased through my LFS. Trust me my mistakes cost me HUNDREDS and it was to their benefit to allow me even assist me in making those mistakes. Now my purchases through LFS are limited to Aquarium salt, or heaters. If I am looking for filters I go to petco or petsmart when I move up to cannisters I will purchase through online sponsors. Fish food I deal almost exclusively with RACHEL for REPASHY SUPER FOODS and Yourfishstuff.com for GREEN SUPREME and CICHLID CRAVERS. Fish purchases from now on will be made through DAVE'S RARE AQUARIUM FISH first and then other reputable online dealers or other CCA or ECC members. Now how is that for a MAJOR shout out to a few of our SPONSORS BOO YAAAA!!!!

I wasn't trying to limit what you said or what you can say about a club sponsor. I simply stated it should have been taken to a private area of the forum where said sponsor can not view it. Unless you guys plan to provide the same services they do if the decided to no longer help the club. It also makes it worse when the complainers are not vested in the club . As you really have nothing to lose.
