I thought it could be that too but I have researchrd this fish a lot, like a whole lot. I can say that it is not just a random hybrid that occured from breeding two differnt fish. I have seen many pictures of this fish from all over the United states and even other countries. Not similar fish but identical fish. This fishes parents may have been hybrids but i think that its similar to german reds where they have been bread to the point that their offspring are consistently the same. I have seen way to many identical fish to believe it was a random hybrid. I have seen this fish identified as- copadichromis kawanga, copadichromis parvus, C. fireline mloto and many more. He has changed A LOT as he matured. And has a huge range of colores depending on mood. I still don't think he is fully colored. If he had a bit more orange in his dorsal he would be identicle to the fireline. Imo I'm not ready to write this fish off as a hybrid. There are just way to many of them out there, it may be line bred but as of now there is no definitive information available and trust me I have searched. If any one has any info that would aid me in my search I would greatly appreciate it.
