We saw the same thing in Belize when we were diving. I was just learning to dive, so couldn't hunt lionfish, but some of the more experienced divers killed a few.

Ive been to Belize, it is awesome for diving or even snorkeling. I don't think we saw lionfish...maybe distracted with the rays and grouper that hung out under the boat.

I saw an episode on TV about lion fish. The thing I came away with was that sharks can eat them without a problem but sharks do not yet know they are food. So the thing is how do you teach a shark that lion fish are food????????

Clearly we need to find a way to manipulate shark intelligence so that they can recognize Lionfish as food and learn to eat new things. Wait, wasn't that the beginning of a bad movie where the sharks end up eating people?

At a yard sale, I met a guy who was a dedicated fisherman and lionfish activist. He referred me to a website of his, I can find it somewhere If anyone is interested. He told me that in Florida, many divers are capturing lionfish and selling them to special resteraunts, where they are correctly prepared for consumption. There is also a project going on where divers are training the territorial groupers to recognize lionfish as a source of food.

He also gave me this awesome hat!

Well my experience in the water sharks aren't to active around reefs they are usually there to rest or get cleaned up. There are other factors that determine that as well. Types of shark depth of the reef etc etc etc. soooo might be difficult maybe we catch lion fish and put them on lures???? Entice the shark?

Nice! Groupers are scary lol the size of that mouth....they shouldn't have any trouble downing a lion fish with ease.
