Keyhole Cichlid Spawning

Came home tonight to find a pair of my Keyhole Cichlids spawning. This is the first time I've actually caught them in the act. Even better, I've managed to arrange the tank so that they are laying the eggs on a small rock.

I've had three pairs lay eggs previously, and every time they've put them on a very large piece of driftwood. A few days later, the eggs are gone and no sign of fry.

I think I'll move the rock into a breeder box tomorrow, if I have time.

The bigger one is close to 4" and the smaller 3". In my experience, once you have a pair, they'll drive the third wheel off, although in a 75 maybe there's enough room that things won't be too tense.

The parents were a little surprised when I removed the rock early this morning! Will see if the eggs will hatch in a breeder box.

:)

Let's hope! In the past, I haven't even seen wrigglers, so I thought it was necessary to bring in Fry Protective Services and place the eggs in a safe location. I'm optimistic, but certainly not counting fry yet.
