Julidochromis Dickfeldi

Just moved my Julidochromis dickfeldi into their new 90 gallon home. There are 5 of the Julies and 3 Altolamprologus compressiceps (Gold Head) Tanz. (Wild Caught). The tank has a rock pile at each end and is open in the middle. This shot was taken with only the aquarium lights and on-board flash of my camera.

Very nice ! I love these guys.

I picked up a pair ( Huge ! 5 inches !! ) from Frybabies last time I was up there. They are by far my favorite Julidochromis now. The blue just blows me away !

Nice shot !

I like that fish a lot. I had J. marlieri in the past, but the blue in this fish is much more interesting.

How will they do in a community tank with twenty tropheus, a few cyps, a few shellies, and a calvus and comp? Five foot 120g. If I,m correct, the julies can be quited aggressive. On second thought, I may have already answered my own question. :(

Need more tanks....

Actually Bobby...

Julidochromis do great in Tropheus tanks.... plus these Julies actually get along with shellies. Regani and marlieri don't get along with shellies.... the rest do.

It's just if the tank is already crowded or not.

These are the first Julies I have had. Fascinating fish, can't tell which way is up. They get along great with the A. compressiceps that I have. I chose these over the others simply because of the blue margin they have, beautiful fish.

Sorry Bobby, I got the last 5 we had. We have ornatus, regani and transcriptus at the warehouse. They don't compare to the dickfeldi though.

dickfeldi were always a cool fish. I bred them a couple of times a while back. Damn that was a long time ago because it was my old house.... Been in this one almost 20 years. Darn. Getting old.
Been in this hobby too long. Maybe time to fine another one? :(

I know Julie has 1 for sale... it's about 3 inches.

I checked her site and saw 24 F? at about 1 1/2". They would have to start in a growout tank. I'm putting some westies from Ted Judy in my 29g. So no more room because of all the FRY

Only one young adult probably wouldn't work out. That would be a good size though. Need at least two to three imo.

I'll keep looking. :(

How about...photography :D Or maybe reptiles. You can drain all your tanks and put lizards and snakes in them. No water changes!!!

About 10 years ago I took 2 of the tanks and put dirt and sticks and plants in it and went to a reptile show.
Changed my mind. I did a bunch of reading about camelions and almost took the plunge. Thought it interesting how they bury the eggs and such.
Would have had a house full of crickets. :spanka:

I think the ones she has on the site listed are the regular boring ones. There are different locals of this fish.... some are just brown and ugly.

Not sure on f1 or f100 ... but her supplier has good stuff .... probably either f1 or line bred.

Daniel has some as well.... but I think his are too young to spawn.

If anyone wants the 1 Julie... let me know. I'll get it shipped with a couple fish I'm getting in.. in the next few weeks. It would help Julie out... as she's trying to clear quite a few tanks. Probably cheap due to that.

I'll take it if you think it's a good one. I'll look for others in the mean time.

Bobby... IMO these are the best I've seen. LARGE .... I think it's a female... best blue markings !! Pat and Tracey were over here.... I think they caught a glimps of them.... but they were still a bit shy.

There were 3 in the tank but the 2 I got were guarding the same area so I left the 3rd there. I'll ask her how much...

Well, I learn something new every day :)

I was on duboisi.com and found this little tid bit of info.

I spoke with Doug from Reserve Stock Cichlid about these fish. He explained to me that the "midnight" fish carry a recessive gene. Sorta like an albino. Midnight fish will give birth to many regular dickfeldi. Here is where line breeding comes in.
[/b]

Thought everyone that has these might be interested. Doug is a well known breeder so I trust the info.

Sorry for leaving you out of the loop on this one Daniel.

It was an impulsive reaction to the J. dickfeldi. The blue caught my attention. :D

Anyway, I don't think I realy want small fry because I haven't a tank to grow them out right now.

I just was rewarded with another forty-some peacock fry today. The fry are taking up all the space I have left. No growout tanks available.

Who is the quote from? And are you suggesting we should stay away from these F1,2,3,4,5,....s?

Bobby,

To grow out the fry, you could probably get a couple of 2 1/2's on the back of a toilet. Put a lid on them though, could be a disaster if they jumped. Seriously, 2 1/2 gallon tank is good to get them to a size that wont readily be eaten. Grow them up a bit and back into a show tank until you can find them another home. I can take a few off your hands if you need to get rid of them.
