It swims around normally, keeps to itself. Doesnt go crazy for food, never did though. But right now its just sitting under the rock. It comes out then goes back in. Doesnt seem to be getting picked on even though its one of the smaller ones in the tank. On his right side (shown)we thought his spots looked kind of funny. Is this normal or could there be something wrong?

Or diet. Trophues need a plant/algae based pellet. Their mouths are designed to scrape algae off rocks. Hikari cichlid staple is a great old world cichlid food. Trophies also like to be kept in groups like schooling fish.

If you want a cichlid similar in appearanve that may work with your current stock look for a paratilapia polleni. But you may have aggression issues and you will need at least a125 gallon tank.

Well, we feed them omega one cichlid food and the hikari food veggie pellets. Noones really aggressive in our big tank, even with its mix. We are going to get some more and put it in the smaller tank with the rams. We may move the 2 yellow labs over with them as well.

If i cab find that paratilapia i may pick one up. Thats really cool looking. Probably super expensive and rare.

Polleni aren't common, but not that hard to find.

I wouldn't put tropheus with rams. Totally different water requirements and different personalities.

All my fish are at a ph of 7.8 right now. Our 55 has african cichlid mix and the 29 has regular sand. They both are at 7.8 in Florida tap water. The ones we are picking up are super small so they wont survive in the big tank long. Once they get some size I may try to switch the over.

Id like to swap our yellow labs over so they can breed. But they may be too small at the moment.

Ok...so im looking at 2 of my cichlid foods...

Omega One super color cichlid pellets and hikari sinking cichlid excel herbivores diet.

Reading the backs both have a few of the same ingredients. Then the guarenteed analysis. The omega one has 38% protein, whereas the hikari has 37%. The rest are very close. So whereas the 2 have some different ingredients...the nutrition seems about the same. So im starting to think that there was something wrong with the first duboisi. We had it for about 2-3 weeks feeding it this mix.

Could have been the stress of the car ride on our move last week. But it seemed fine until yesterday. Just hadnt ate much last couple days.

Any opinions on the food thing?
