Here's the rundown.

I currently own a blackberry curve 8320 with the internet plan.
I have t-mobile.
I want an iPhone, but do not want to switch to AT&T.

I know I need an unlocked/jailbroken phone. I just need more information on what exactly I need to get in order to use the iphone on t-mobile's network.
Also if I do get an iphone, will t-mobile's internet work properly?
Basically I just want the scope on how to switch to an iphone and make it operate correctly.

Thanks :)

While I havent needed to JB my phone yet so im no help I do know T-Mobile is the easiest service to JB an iphone on. Iv messed around with a few JB phones on T-Mobile and it works just like a normal Iphone. JB phones do run a little slower though. Best bet is to just find someone with a JB phone and ask them how they did it.

I just made the BB Curve to iPhone switch like 2 weeks ago. Jbreaking the phone is easy as pie and I did everything myself. Now I've heard hacking a 3GS is harder or more troublesome than a 3G plus since you're not on ATT you can't use the 3GS features anyway so the extra expense isn't necessary. Tmobil accepted me with open arms when I told them I wanted to use my JB phone on my existing plan. They optimized my plan to work with the iPhone and talked me step by step what settings to put the phone on. Unlimited minutes/messaging/data for like $85 a month. So what you wanna do is get a 3G iPhone and update the software to the latest version like you normally would on iTunes you can also sync your music videos movies and apps at this time. Then exit iTunes and leave the iPhone connected to computer. Go to www.blackra1n.com and after it finds your phone click on "make it ra1n" and 10 seconds later your phone is unlocked. Then you unplug your phone and open the blackra1n app and it let's you download Cydia which is like the iTunes app store. Now you are ready to talk to tmobile and they'll give you the settings to out the phone on. I went to the "my tmobil" site and chatted with them instead of calling them. Sorry for the long post hope this helps Phil, DO IT!!

I was told that with t-mobile I have to use their Edge network and will not be able to get 3G, which is what I want.

Seems like I will be switching to at&t...ugh!

I have e a Blackberry Storm from Verizon, I want an iPhone so bad lol. I really like the service that Verizon provides, every time I call my friends who have at&t they rarely have service. Does anyone know if the iPhone would be available for Verizon customers some time soon? FYI Verizon wont let me do the JB phone plan with the iPhone lol I have already tried lol.

You are right about that you cant use it on their 3g service because tmobile runs at either 1700 or 2100 mhz while iphone 3g runs at 1900 mhz. Some people are happy enough with running it on edge. Also on edge t-mobile has no problem with people tethering. Which is a big deal to me since I can take my laptop anywhere and have the interweb! Although im on att and just have a hack that lets me do that. And if you do make the switch to att its not as bad as everyone makes it to be. Its way too easy to get a 20% discount on your service too. Also dont believe the hype about maps verizon is making because they fail to mention a couple points. Yes they have a bigger 3g map because they are using an older protocol CDMA which has been around forever and is starting to run out of bandwith and affecting emergency band frequencies and is not a global protocol. The only other country that uses CDMA is Korea. att and t-mobile pushed to use the newer and much more expensive protocol (GSM) therefore thats why they have a smaller "map" but if your already using t-mobile then you already know what att service is like since if i remember right tmbile uses att towers.

This is just the very little iv gathered looking into this stuff over some time so dont quote me lol

That's pretty impressive, Jose. ;)

I switched over to at&t from sprint a few months ago, but didn't get an iphone. So far at&t coverage has been pretty good. What I heard about iphone is that the phone part is the worst. Anyhow, thinking about getting an iphone, but the fact that at&t would charge more than double for the same unlimited data plan on the iphone as they would on other 3G phone pisses me off. But I suppose if you have the iphone, you would use a lot more data. So, it kinda makes sense.

There's a simple answer to why the data plan for the iPhone costs so much.
iPhones sell for a lot less than they are worth (manufacturing costs, etc), so to even out costs and break even, the data plan is spiked high.

I have a iPhone 3g and I pay 85 for 400 mins. Unlimited data and 100 text a month. With roll over and free nights and weekends it might as well be unlimited talk.

Yup iPhones really cost AT&T about 400 and 600 bucks but they subsidize the cost that's why you get charged more. But trust me you will use alot more data then you do now. Don't expect to get much work done the first week! Most of my web browsing is done on my phone and I never check my email at home. Plus when you get into the world of apps it's unbelivable what these phones can do. As for the discount tons of companies have discounts with AT&T check who you work for alot of times you don't even know you can get a discount. If not I'll see if I can get you a FAN #

So no iphone for me, not until my contract is up in July. (Hello iphone 4G!) lol

I called t-mobile and google to find out how to buy the Nexus one droid phone. Seems like google is the ONLY place that carries them and can only be bought from them.
And in order to buy the $180 model, you need a new contract with t-mobile. Which confuses me as to why there is an "upgrade this phone on an existing contract" option...

Yeah, so I just bought it...at least I have a 30day return if I don't like it.

The wife and I love our 3G iphones. Coverage around here is fantastic, as well as most of the places I visit during the year, so I could care less if "can you hear me now" doesn't work in the middle of the woods in East DakotaOklabraska someplace. The only thing I wish it had ... tethering. Not a big hacker, but is it simple to do and effective? Can you point me in the direction? Thanks!

Its as easy as going to a web page clicking install and rebooting. I just dont know if it will work with the newest 3.1.2 update. I know at least for awhile it wouldnt because the newest updates blocked tethering. Mines still running 3.1 because I dont want to give up tethering. Ill find out and PM you when I ask my friend whos some kind of iphone wiz.

My blackberry started to die this week so I bought an iPhone. I'm in love! I've had AT&T for around 5 years and have had no problems with coverage.

Any recommendations on apps?

Youll be on it 24/7 when you first get it. Good thing you got it now so you can still keep unlimited data. New iPhone gets announced mon woot woot! Can't wait since mines starting to get janky. I have dropped mine in a pool lost it in the snow for 3 hours accidentally punted it and still rockin!

As for apps I don't know what your into the ones everyone must have are Pandora, Shazam, App Box Pro, Koi Pond (no real use but a just because) and white pages. There's tons others that I'm sure others will mention.

I'm in the same boat.
TMobile.
I can get a new phone in a month, and I currently have a BB.
I was thinking about getting the BB9700 but would consider looking at something else.
I NEED to receive my emails immediately as they are sent to me, anyone getting bad lag time with their emails with any of these phones?

Yeah I'm on it all the time. I did keep the unlimited data plan too. I couldn't wait until the G4 came out so the rep said I have 30 days to return it and upgrade so we'll see. I found one app called red laser It scans bar codes and searches for price and places to buy. Great when out shopping. I was running around my house scanning everything last night. My favorite thing is the link to iTunes and every mp3 I have is on it with the playlists. If this thing works in my car ipod hook up I'm going to **** (self censored) my pants.
