If you were on an island (Cast Away style) and had to pick 5 albums to be able to listen to for the rest of your life which albums would they be?

Rules:
It has to be a STUDIO album. NOT a live album or compilation (compilation is for example a greatest hits album).

Here's my list:
Back in Black by AC/DC
LOVE (remix album, NOT a compilation) by the folks that do the Cirque du Soleil music and The Beatles
11:11 by Rodrigo y Gabriela
1984 by Van Halen
Appetite for Destruction by Guns N' Roses

I had to leave out Led Zeppelin unfortunately, but I'm happy with my list.

So in your stranded-on-an-island or post-apocalyptic world scenario, which 5 albums would you want to keep to be able to listen to?

I can serve you up something half random and suggestive of the period in which my music sense came of age.

- Stone Temple Pilots, Purple
- Smashing Pumpkins, Siamese Dream
- Counting Crows, August and Everything After
- Natalie Merchant, Tiger Lily
- Brahms German Requieum (and this gets listened to twice as much!)

I would have to agree with Moving Pictures and Boston.
I would also have to have

Abbey Road - is there really anyone that doesn't know who put that one together?
Who's Next - of course by The Who
Hi Infidelity by REO Speedwagon

I like the first two off of Wendy's list, though I may lean towards Gish from the Smashing Pumpkins.

Let me see.... yeah, about to date myself as well.....

Sublime - 40oz to Freedom
Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique
Jane's Addiction - Nothing Shocking
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
Outkast - Southernplayalisticcadillacmusic

Two alternates...

Pearl Jam - Ten
Bjork - Telegram

If it weren't for the non-compilation rule, I would include Michael Jackson - HIStory in my 5. Yeah, he was a nutcase, but he cranked out some of the defining music of my childhood.

Albums huh? I'm not that old, but I know what they are. I have a few CDs I'd bring. I haven't bought any in years though, so most of these are from middle school or high school days.

Sublime - Sublime
Greenday - Dookie
Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory
311-311
Ludacris - Word of Mouf (need a little variety)

Dude - I hate to break it to you, but 40oz is the superior Sublime album. :p

My choice went 5 times platinum by 1999:eek:. I couldn't follow you up with the same CD, so I had to go with the next solid selection;). I had another Beasties CD I was going to add too, but our lists would have looked too similar. You can't tell me there aren't some awesome songs on there though; Caress me Down, Wrong Way, and Doin' Time.

Metallica-- Kill Em All
Rush-- Spirit of Radio
Suicidal Tendancies-- Lights Camera Revolution
Motley Crue-- Shout at the Devil
Steve Miller-- Book of Dreams

That's just mean, it's bad enough being stuck on a island, but no best of's!

Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind
Army or Anyone - Army of Anyone
Queensrÿche - The Warning
Rush - 2112
Dio - Holy Diver

5 just isn't enough, I want half of the one's listed by others.

Wendy Fish - Checkout Army of Anyone, it's the guys from STP. I just discovered their CD last month and my first thought was "this would have been a great follow-up to Purple" I'd go as far as saying it's better.

I'm going to listen to every single one of those albums on my way to and from North Carolina on Saturday :D
