I thought this was a Male OB

I had this fish for a while that had nice color then it started fading. I thought it was a male that is losing its color and it will eventurally comes back. Next thing I know she is holding. Hmmm.

Sometimes its tough to tell with ob's the color means almost nothing males just have blue in the face. My female has better, darker, and brighter orange and black then my male also the female has egg spots the male does not.

IME OBs, maybe peacocks in general, are a fish that is often hormoned to make them look good at a small size-- not everywhere, all depends where you get them. Difference between male and female OBs (non-hormoned) becomes more evident with maturity, not just blue in the face (which varies considerably between breeding strains), but overall color and finnage.

I have seen males without blue on their faces but never females with blue also I believe fins and egg spots are somewhat unreliable factors in determining OB gender. I used to breed several and there are so many genetic differences in a "man made" fish there ime is no baseline to compare too just the parents that can never be traced back to a wild fish that hasn't been tinkered with by humans

Can't believe I caught this first. This is the New World section. Thread should be moved if you want more interest.
