Looking to identify a possible juvenile T. Nigriventor. Found it in the assorted tank of my lfs and was unidentified. Let me know if you have experience with juvenile T. Nigriventor and I'll submit photo..

Thanks

Looks like it could be T. nigriventor South to me. I'll let Ed chime in to confirm.

Thanks for the response. The other candidate is a Fusco, but the orange rim on the dorsal makes him look more like a T. Nigriventor. Really appreciate your opinions. I've been looking for this fish for a long time and I think I might have just gotten really lucky. LFS couldn't identify it even when I suggested a Tyranochromis. I got a good buy.

The shape of the head and melanin pattern are wrong for a fusco. Fuscos typically have a dominant lateral line stripe (though not always continuous). Your guy has more of a series of vertical wavy stripes. Also, the forehead is more straight than the fuscos I've seen. They typically have a more rounded forehead.

I'd noticed the lateral line on Fuscos and the lack of one on my fish. Glad you brought that up because it validated my own thoughts...I just didn't want to be too hopeful before I got some better educated opinions. I'm getting increasingly excited to watch this guy develop. In your opinion will I have any issues with temperament? He's in a 210 with several large mature peacocks, 1 lg rostratis,1 lg mpombo, 1 lg bucco n., 1 juv A. christyi, 1 juv red cap Lethrinops,1 lg phenoculis. Thanks again Tony.....

He should be fine. Your lethrinops on the other hand.... :fighting0097:

I'll watch them closely. There are lots of hiding places in my tank. My lethrinops is a little cranky as far as lethrinops go. Ill be ready to pull a fish if they get overly picked. Thanks for the heads up.
