Hello from Western New York

Hey I'm from NoVa but am currently attending college in Western NY. I look forward to being home this summer (at least for a few weeks before I head to my internship). I look forward to meeting y'all and will hopefully see you on May 14th in Silver Spring.

I'm very limited in my tanks (must fit in a dorm room) but I'm pushing my limits with my heavily planted 10g and 5g tanks. I currently keep otos, neons, and red cherry shrimp although I'm hoping to get back into bettas or venture into Dario Dario.

See y'all around!

I had a couple Dario Dario. They are pretty cool little fish, I would definitely recommend them if you have limited tank space.

Hey there! Welcome to the forum!

Thanks :)

Very cool. Do you have any recommendations on how feeding would work? I'm researching how to raise and keep fish food cultures but I'm not sure which ones would be best for these guys or for my dorm room :p

I just started a thread in the non-chiclids section about it.

HEY HEY! Another person with ties to Western New York on the Forum! :jumpy: What college are you attending? I'm a Buff State grad and from the Falls.

If you haven't been out to it, check out The Fish Place on Robinson RD and Oliver St. in Tonawanda. They have an excellent selection and pretty good prices too. If you head out NF blvd to Sheridan past DUFF's, is Markheim. They are pricier but sometimes have a better selection. You can get real wings on the way too. :D

Awesome! Thanks for the info. I attend Alfred University. It's about 2 hours outside of buffalo (hour south of Rochester) so I guess I'm borderline western/central NY. I've been wanting to make a trip up for some wings for a long time. My buddies and I have taken a couple trips to Buffalo Wild Wings in Elmira (just opened up) but that's about it.

Alfred!! Nice, I used to teach in Wellsville. You've probably been to Better Days!?! Make the trip to Buffalo, its worth it. Wild wings are good but its still not the same.

When I used to live in the area, there was a pet store in Olean on 418 (or whatever that road is connecting Wellsville to Olean) just before you got into Olean. They had a 'different' selection. Bunch of odd stuff. :confused0083:

The Petco by the Arnott Mall in Corning/Elmira had a fun selection and there was a dude who worked there who would order me anything on their list. In Elmira was a great little mom n pop store, I think called Tropical Fish Place, that had A LOT OF TANKS for being so small. He was a hobbyist and would order stuff for me and trade stuff for my extra fry. I still have their fridge magnet. lol.

The Southern Tier a weird area to live in, but its a nice drive to everything. I loved it.

WELLSVILLE! wow that's really close lol. Small world! It's really diffucult for me to get away from campus sometimes because of academics and athletics but I have been to the Petsmart by Elmira. When I was at the Arnot Mall I didn't go to petco but there was some small petstore inside the mall (it was...erm interesting).
My friend from Elmira has told me about the Tropical Fish Place. His father gets pretty much all his fish from there. I rarely go west out of Alfred but if I ever find myself heading towards Olean I'll definitely check out that store. It sounds really cool!

I still can't wait to get back to NoVa though. I've had enough snowy days for a couple of lifetimes.
