Welcome aboard.

+1 on sand. I use a mixture of crushed coral and pool filter sand on all of my rift lake tanks. The crushed coral will buffer your water a bit and the pool filter sand is the right size for the fish to play with.

Welcome to the Forum! I am converting all my tanks to pool filter sand. I liked the gravel substrate but I've been converted since join this club.

The issue I have with play sand is that it is SO dirty. I have put PFS into a tank without rinsing it with no issues. Play sand needs to be thoroughly rinsed before it goes in a tank. You could always go with the sand marketed for aquaria, but you will pay through the nose for it.

Ya I dnt need to use crushed coral cause my tap is hard enough in the first place... But ya I know playsand is dirtier.... I have a 220 wot pfs in it and I washed that out jus because u never know what could be in thlse bags... But im looking for a darker sand so gonna try playsand... But still obviously gonna wash it
