Fueling Power Power Plants with Lake Kivu

Here's an interesting little item. Some of our members keep fish from Lake Kivu. (Young Matt Quinn, I believe.) The Lake is thought to have given rise to the species that later gave rise to the specie flock in Lake Victoria. However, the lake is also heavily stratified, with the deeper layers consisting of methane and carbon dioxide gas. Every so often, the gases erupt from the water, emitting a poisonous cloud.

The government of Rwanda is setting out to siphon out the gasses, and use them to fuel three power plants.
