Oops, Dan, keep getting side-tracked on the pics (ADHD, grrrrr--lol).
Just in case I don't get to it, are you planning to be @ Sat. CCA meeting? If so, I can bring the bichir for you to see. His/her markings are nice & crisp w/ lots of contrast; girth is appropriate for the length--nice & healthy.

As an added bonus, (s)he also recognizes me as the one who drops manna from Heaven, so to speak--lol--& always comes right on out to feed or otherwise check me out. I imagine it wouldn't take long @ all before (s)he'd be behaving the same w/ you.
