I'm not sure what species this is. But, since we were conversing about jewel fish earlier in the week, and since jewel fish are really neat no matter what species, here's a video of a pair spawning. See you at the meeting.

Looks like some of their kids from a previous spawn swimming around with them!

I have what I hope is a pair of Hemichromis sp. "Guinea I"... anyone have any experience with these guys?

I had a pair of sp. "Guinea II" for a few years... they always acted on the verge of spawning but never did.

Are those the really big ones I saw?

Somewhere I read on the Web that in their native habitat, Letourneauxi spawned in conjunction with the heavy rains. Don't know what the water in sp. "Guinea I"'s habitat is like. But maybe your fish also spawn in tandem with spring rains. So going from high conductivity to low might do the trick. Try keeping them with some cichlid salt in the water for a couple of weeks, then doing a big water change with Mont County tap. Or keep them in Montgomery County tap, and do a water change with rain water from your downspout.
