Is it worth it? saw one on ebay.. any advice? would love to have canister filters, but they are just too expensive bnew..

I have a bunch of fluvial 405s and they work great. Search on Craigslist you can find one every now and then

Yes it is. I got 2 of them after Thanksgiving. One is on a 75 gallon, and it keeps the water Crystal clear. The other is on a 150 with another filter.

yes.. i agree that canister filters are great..but we are talking a 403..thats an old model, and compared to the 405's, i have no clue if it will be worth the invested money..

There were a couple listed on Craigslist this morning, I think in Rockville, and they were pretty cheap.

yeah..i am actually communicating with the seller now.. but reading that the 403 is 2 generations old, and at least 10 years old, parts will be rare and therefore expensive.. i am afraid that i might end up spending money on an old replacement part and end up spending more than getting a brand new one..

so im good if i get the 403 and have 405 replacement parts on it?

If you search for the owners manuals, I think they will list the part numbers. A few will change in a re-design, but most stay the same(e.g. they generally won't change a hose diameter).
