Finding HE(NO) bulbs

I'm having a very hard time finding T5-HE or NO replacement bulbs. I've been to Zoomeds site, and all their T5's seem to be HO. Any standard NO bulbs are T8's. I've yet to find a site that offers T5-HE/NO bulbs! Did I make a mistake buying a T5-HE fixture?

Bulbs measure 46" in a 48" Deep Blue fixture. HE is the same as NO from what I understand.

I also bought a Deep Blue HE fixture, and it does take NO bulbs, but it's brand new, so I won't be replacing bulbs hopefully for years. My other T5NO fixtures are these:

They take 18W bulbs, like these:

Even tho it says 30", the bulb is NOT, it's 24".

Your fixture should take a T5 28W bulb, like this:

Notice it says T5, NOT T5HO, as long as it's a T5 28W bulb, you'll be fine.

Hey Loni, I just did a closer inspect. The bulbs measure 45 1/2". I've read your recent posts about this fixture. How do you like yours? My other concern is whether it will be sufficient light for a 24" deep lightly planted tank. I suppose I can replace the actinic bulb with another to amp up the output.

Hi Barry, I like the fixture a lot. I love the slightly blueish tint the tank has (my fixture has one 10K bulb and one actinic bulb), fish colors really "pop". In a room with 3 other tanks that have 6500K and pink grow bulb tanks, makes the other planted tanks look real yellow. The tank I have the Deep Blue fixture on is a 75g, 21" high, and I have the same concern you do, I'm going to give it a go with the 10K and actinic light. All I have in the tank is anubias, java windelov and a small crypt, I'm hoping the 10K will be enough light. Below is a pic of the tank, staying cycled with tetra's, waiting for the Mbuna to arrive.

Looks good Loni. We'll have to compare notes as time goes by. I'm stocking mine with SA cichlids. Good luck going forward, and many thanks for the comments. Barry
