Feeder angels

I just did a cull of a superviel spawn and anyone who breeds these knows you get a lot. This is the 3rd cut and all are healthy, dime to quarter sized fish and number around 30. I also have 10 breeder sized that also would make good food for those large fish you may have. Come pick them up in Urbana and they are yours.

pst for more info

I used to use culls from Dennis' hatchery to feed the piranhas - they make GREAT feeders and it is so much less wasteful than icing them. They are gut-loaded, healthy, and disease-free - plus they are not nearly as dirty as gold fish, should your fish choose not to eat them right away.

These guys would get eaten in the wild, or starve to death, it's not mean, it's just the way things are.

I don't have a need for any right now. However If can bring a similar group to a meeting next month, I could use them. I can offer Red Cherry Shrimp or probably some yellow apple snails(just laid eggs) as a trade.

If I look at the calendar, I think I am taking my second week long sailing class Saturday of the meeting. I will try to get to one of these meetings someday but it is a hike and I always have something to do in the fishroom. I will post here when I know I can make it.

Icing is a painful way to die. Studies suggest that fish are capable of feeling pain and the water in the cells expand and burst when ice crystals form.

If you're coming to the meeting, would you bring any of the nicer looking culls?

Someone please save these poor angels

if they are culls why would we want to save them??? to propagate defects and other undesirable traits?? I think he should be congratulated for being a responsible breeder. We slam people for selling hybrids, etc. I think he is doing the right thing by culling - either by icing, feeder fish, etc...

Yeah, my vulture cat, predatory haps, Parachromis and (soon enough) red wolf fish would love to take care of your problem, Doug.

Maybe I can get up there some time next week after work. I'd love to check out your setup. :)

I agree. We wouldn't want to sell people angels with odd colors or abnormal fins now, would we? That is how we line breed to make a gene stronger! I will have to do this with my bettas. I am only keeping 4-6 to sell and a pair to keep and breed again out of a batch of 200+ fish.

Doug, keep up the good work and I'd like to see picture of the parents!!!

Icing isn't a humane way to cull.

I'm still interested in any healthy culls that don't make the cut. I'm not interested in breeding them, just having them as pets.

If you still have some later this week, I'd like to get some from you for my turtles.
