Etroplus maculatus (Orange Chromides) Bred

My little pair of orange chromides spawned under a piece of driftwood. They're in a 2'x2'x1' tank with some driftwood, PVC and plastic plants. They share the tank with some Myaka myaka and some goodeids.

I think the extra feeding and water changes during the government shut-down inspired them!

They're in with some other fish, so I'll see how they do in guarding the fry. So far so good on the eggs!

I bred these guys back in 2006 or so. They key is getting a well-bonded pair...

I've never had luck introducing adult fish after a female died (or was killed). They can be vicious to each other.

This is my first experience with the wild-type ones (I've kept the yellow ones in the past a few times), so maybe it will be different.

Do they mate for life?

I've kept them in both brackish and pure fresh and concluded that pure fresh works just great.

There is some debate about whether they originate in fresh or brackish as well.

Very nice dwarf cichlid from Sri Lanka. Will do better in a brackish setup..
