Montgomery County Schools were off on Monday so Catherine and I went to the Zoo.

Started on the Asia Trail:

Giant Panda

On to the Small Mammal House where I didn't know how to use the camera and have no shots. But, outside we saw something I'd never seen before:

The "O" line.

Now the reptile house. Everything was posing here:

Alpaca

Koi in the Kids' Farm pond. The Zoo bought these from me a couple years ago and they're starting to look very nice.

Now my favorite exhibit, Amazonia:

Leopoldi and Motoro stingrays goofing off.

Pike Characin, Boulengerella sp. They bought these guys from me as well to help eat the guppies that were out of control in the stingray tank.

Pretty stingray

Black Pacu, probably two feet long.

Flagtail Characin

The whole reason I took the camera... Arapaima! This guy's about five feet long. The biggest one is around seven or so.

I'm fascinated by these folds and ridges on the head. Looks to me like an H.R. Geiger sculpture.

This Pseudodoras niger was the store mascot. Found him a good home at the zoo...

And finally:

Poison Dart frog romance...

Now I have to go move my car from a two-hour limit parking space. Catherine falls asleep in her seat so we're done. 'Til the next teacher professional day.

Great pictures Andrew, looks like you and your daughter had a great time. I love those dart frogs; man they are just so cool, I kind of wish I still had mine every time I see pictures of them.

Either you have a camera with excellent zoom or you got a close of tour. Either way the pics are great and I am jealous. I have never had luck seeing everything as close up before. Thanks for sharing.

Great shots Andrew :)

I love the red panda and the cute prairie dog.

It must be cool to see of the fish you sold to them all grown upand being taken care of... I know I like seeing fish I have bred all grown up as well :)

I have exactly zero talent for taking photos. I borrowed a good camera with a super zoom from my mother-in-law and then got lucky with the subjects.

Have you been to the Baltimore zoo recently? It has been totally redone and is really quite nice now. Still not DC, but way better than several years ago.

I end up at the about 3 days a week for work. It is nice to grab some lunch and sit in front of an exhibit and eat. Don't usually take my camera, as it is to much to lug around when I am working.

I even saw Andrew when he was there!

Simply awesome pics, Andrew. I especially like the iguana.... his skin color came out beautiful.

I'm a project manager for a concrete construction company and am hopeful that we land the renovation of the sea lion exhibit down there in the Spring. Would love an excuse to wander around there a coupe times a week. :)
