Montgomery County Schools were off on Monday so Catherine and I went to the Zoo.
Started on the Asia Trail:
Red Panda
Giant Panda
On to the Small Mammal House where I didn't know how to use the camera and have no shots. But, outside we saw something I'd never seen before:
The "O" line.
Now the reptile house. Everything was posing here:
Egyptian Cobra
Some kind of viper
Cuban crocodile
Green Iguana (my favorite shot of the day)
Managuense and Dempseys in the Mata Mata turtle tank
Gotta love this guy...
Golden Mantella
Fire Belly Toad
On our way to the next stop:
Prairie dog
Alpaca
Koi in the Kids' Farm pond. The Zoo bought these from me a couple years ago and they're starting to look very nice.
Now my favorite exhibit, Amazonia:
Leopoldi and Motoro stingrays goofing off.
Pike Characin, Boulengerella sp. They bought these guys from me as well to help eat the guppies that were out of control in the stingray tank.
Pretty stingray
Black Pacu, probably two feet long.
Flagtail Characin
The whole reason I took the camera... Arapaima! This guy's about five feet long. The biggest one is around seven or so.
I'm fascinated by these folds and ridges on the head. Looks to me like an H.R. Geiger sculpture.
This Pseudodoras niger was the store mascot. Found him a good home at the zoo...
And finally:
Poison Dart frog romance...
Now I have to go move my car from a two-hour limit parking space. Catherine falls asleep in her seat so we're done. 'Til the next teacher professional day.
