Cynotilapia sp. Lion's Cove spawn

I picked up a group of these recently and had them in a mixed tank until I figured out where to put them and to give the known female a chance to settle down and put some weight back on after her last spawn for their previous owner. They were looking pretty good so I recently put them in a heavily rocked 29 by themselves to see what would happen and left them alone for a few weeks. They managed to entirely disappear behind the rocks....the only way I knew they were in there was that I could see that something had been moving a lot of substrate around.

So I decided to check on them tonight to see how they were doing. After moving a few rocks, I noticed that the female was holding. So I decided to strip her and got about 15 to 20 fully formed fry.

Dad is a stunning fish, I'll post pics if I can.

bummer. Something happened to the batch and none made it (looks fungal/bacterial to me). I plan to disinfect the tank and keep an eye on the parents to see if they spawn again.

So, the last batch of fry didn't fare too well and it's been a while since I saw any spawning activity. I finally noticed the female holding again and have a new batch of fry to try again. These seem to be doing better at the moment.
