The current August issue (Issue 8 August '10) of Practical Fish Keeping magazine has some great articles in it.

The one that caught my eye immediately was on the cover it mentioned an article by Heiko Bleher on Iranocichla hormuzensis.

Then, after buying it, I found an awesome article on Freshwater Stingrays (even though there was a HUGE photo of them on the cover, I only bothered to find where the Iranocichla article was) (stingray article was basically an introductory article on them, the different types, keeping them, etc).

Lastly was an article on a group of Protomelas algae eaters including Protomelas similis, P. kirkii, P. labridens, and P. pleurotaenia. Pretty decent article by Ad Konings! PFK made an error though, in the mini-map where they show where the fish are from, they show Lake Tanganyika even though the caption of that image says Lake Malawi...

It's a shame the magazine isn't cheaper here...It cost me $8.75 (National Geographic is $5.99) :(...worth it though.

Also, the article on Iranocichla was nice...it's about how they are struggling to survive in salt water since their habitat is dying (go figure, NOT because of humans it sounds like) and natural salt deposits are concentrating in their few creeks...

If some of you haven't heard of Heiko Bleher, he has tons of fish species bearing his or his family's names, and he does these videos:

So go to Barnes N' Noble or Borders and pick up that magazine issue! It is definitely worth it.

Heiko is quite the character.
He did several presentations at the Canadian Association of Aquarium Clubs convention in 2009.

He is in the yellow jacket and black hat:

I just picked up the mag from Barnes & Noble. I do not believe Border's stocks this mag, but I could be mistaken. It is IMHO the best aquarium magazine available.

Here's the mag cover...again I have no idea how I didn't notice the stingray article. There was a small booklet guide to the UK's many fish shops that sort of covered it (it was bundled in plastic shrink wrap) so I guess that is why...

I never subscribed or paid any $$, I just ran across a link to an article in the online version a couple years ago and then signed up my e-mail. I do pay $1/year for my TFH digital subscription, but free is better.
Here's a link to their homepage, but I don't know where you need to go from there: http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/
