I was wondering if the 8x4 sheets of green foam from lowes are safe to use for a 3d background? Any experience or knowledge with this? Thanks to anyone who can help me out.

I would say its ok but double check for anti mold mildew etc aslong as there is no reflective surface etc.

would definitely look up the MSDS for it... company is required to post one... it will tell you anything that is toxic in the product.

BTW, what lids are on my tanks is made from that.

I want to say that the green foam from Joanne Fabric has mildew retardant / will kill fish.

Any building material that is green and is designed to go on a wall is meant to be installed around water. That means that it has been treated to be water resistant and mold resistant - not water proof. I have no idea what the chemical process is, but would not risk it in a tank.
