Cupramine question

Still trying to kill the ich in my entire FRESHWATER fishroom. I just dosed all the tanks with Cupramine.

My question is: what is the proper dose?

The directions state:
Use 2 drops per gallon the first day, wait 48 hours, then repeat. In freshwater use half dose.

So I asked the owner of my LFS and he said it means 2 drops per gallon the first day and then 1 drop per gallon 48 hours later.

But then I noticed on another part of the bottle it says final copper concentration is 0.5 mg/L (0.25 mg/L in freshwater)

I already dosed it with 2 drops/gallon and the copper test kit is coming tomorrow for me to really know what the concentration is.

What are the symptoms of overdosing with copper?

Example, if you have a 10 gallon tank half the dosage would be 10 drops instead of 20.
I usually raise the temperature and add an extra air pump for aeration. Let the meds sit in the tank for 3 days not 48 hours. Do a water change 50%. Then, don't forget to vacuum the substrate because all the dead ick will fall off the fish and sit on the bottom. Then re-dose again and after 3 more days they should be fine and do a final Vac and 50% water change.

Good Luck and if you have any more questions PM me.

Thanks for the info. I already lost all my new yellow lab fry just released to days ago, I probably overdosed them and the other tanks seemed to handle the 2 drop per gallon. I'm still waiting for my copper test kit to come, that will tell me the correct amount of copper in the water.

Between the ick issue, my AV-50 aip pump overheating, the bottom rack on my purchased metal stand no being level so I can't fill the new 40B that I bought. The last month has been a disappointment. I guess all in all I really didn't loose that many fish, just a tank full of demasoni fry (15), the new labs from 2 females (27), the peacocks (5)I won at the CCA picnic. No deaths in my 2" juvie demasoni's, 2" yellow labs, Koi Angels, and 65g Malawi show and 110g mixed show tanks.

My new avitar shows how I feel.

Ben, I'm really sorry for your losses, but now you need to do some investigating and back tracking on how the tank got contaminated in the first place so it won't happen again.

As for the fry, I think because of their size they were not strong enough to handle the ick. Trust me Ben, I've seen fully grown African Mbuna's who are as strong as nails not withhold the nastiness of the ick parasite. That's why next time you see the same behavior or just a few white specks on their body hit them immediately with Cupermaine. Salt is a good preventative, but that copper kicks a s s!!!

Sorry to see someone go thru the problems you are going thru.

No meds are really needed to rid a tank of ich.
Raising the tank temp slowly until it is about 84 or 85 degrees and hitting the tank with salt, sea or kosher, at about 5 tbls per 10 gallons of water will do the trick.

There was never any white spots, that's what through me off, just scratching and labored breathing. So I treated with salt and Melafix, not really knowing what was going on. I'm still not 100% sure it was ick, but they were scratching and the other remedy didn't work.

As far as fry and juvies it's difficult to see anything.

Bill is right, but I'm just giving you advice on what has worked for me over the years. If you don't see specks on their bodies then use Metronidazole by Seachem. That will work for the juvies and fry just fine. what kind of substrate is in the tank and what size it again?

UPDATE: no loses in over a week, fish look and act allot better. I'm going to let the copper stay in the water for another week before I do a water change, like the directions say.
