Convict breeding?

Hey, I have a pair of convicts I'm trying to breed and I think I'm close but I need some help. They are clearing sand around the rocks I put up and making a house of sorts lol. The male is trying to seduce the female but nothing yet is there anything i can do to make this more successful ? If anyone has tips please give me some info :)

Note: I change the water regularly and maintain the appropriate temp. And feed them regularly as well. Also it's a 10g tank because of my apartment situation.

I'd be wary of trying a pair in a 10 gallon tank. It simply isn't enough room for them long term, and eventually your male will kill the female unless you divide the tank.

I've had good luck with big water changes (75% or more) with cooler water for inducing a spawn.

I agree with Jon
Males will get agressive so you want at least a 20 gallon, or even better, a 30 as a long term home. From what it sounds like they might be getting ready to spawn. Have you seen the male "dance around" by the female and flare his gills? That a sign that they might spawn soon. Also, do you see a small white tube coming out the bottom of the female or the male?

As said a large water change with slightly cooler water should do the trick.

They may get along well before and during the spawn but between spawns is where the males can get nasty if the female is not ready right away.

As said never had luck with a pair of cons in a 10g.

Yes I know but I have a 12 gallon to separate them when and if they spawn. My parents don't like fish like that :(. But yes I have seen one flare it's gills, I'm still new but my brother said they were male and female.

Looks like a m/f. Try this, skip the next water change altogether. Then do a large 50-75% water change with cooler water (not cold). Feed a little more also prior to the water change.

Keep us posted,

Believe me, I've been there
I just dont involve my parents at all or the least possible with my tanks and show them that Im responsible and they let me have more and more tanks. When I started my parents helped me clean the tanks and payed for it all but now I pay for everything an the most they do is look at the tanks or drive me to CCA events.
