Color enhancement

I've seen marigold in some fish foods already....don't remember where, but it's been around. I think you can get it at health food stores, and in the Spring, you can buy the plant with the edible flowers "Mexican marigold" at high-end plant nurseries like Behnkes....it'll be over with the herbs, not the ornamental flowers. Just remember that there are multiple plants out there called "marigold"....some are toxic, so make sure you get the right one. If it's for sale as a human or animal supplement, you're safe, just don't go grabbing petals at random out of your garden!

Paprika is supposed to provide pigments too....not sure how they compare as far as potency, absorbability, etc.

I had to chuckle.....did you notice that the fish pics in the article are upside down? :)

Lol I did notice.
If I were to use it I would want the ground up stuff I've seen for Georgian cooking...used for there deserts type dishes. And or the petal meal mixed with scratch for chickens.

Read a lot of cool stuff about it even being used as an anti inflammatory.

Yep....that's right...I have heard of it being used on chickens. That practice goes back quite a ways.

Marigold powder or "tagetes meal" is a common ingredient in poultry foods to make egg yolks yellower. It's found in some fish foods like Aqueon Tropical flakes as a color enhancer too.
