CL post for canisters

During my daily cruuse through CL I found two canister filters an eheim claessic 250- 2213 and a sunsun hw-302
They are 20 bucks each I currently have a ML magnum 350 and it loses most of its flow within days after cleaning, I hate it. If I purchased these would I be know as that guy who doesn't mind being ripped off? The condition is "like new"

I've had the same 2213 since 2004 and I'm pretty sure it was used when I got it. I've replaced the impeller, shaft, and o-ring in the past 5 years, but it works like a charm. $20 is a steal. If you're not going to buy it, send me a link to the ad, I never mind having another eheim.

Thank you thats all i needed to hear My concern is it may not be piwerful enough for a 70g heavily populated cichlid tank ill think I'm gonna buy em both and if it doesn't work out I will send it your way
Thanks
Dan

Thanks!

We ran a 150 gallon on a 2213 and a 2217 for years before upgrading to two 2217's. the 2213 is good for up to about 55 gallons - coupled with another filter I think it would be fine for a 70 gallon. If you want a little extra oomph, put sponges over the intakes - extra bio and mechanical filtration.

I have been pleased with all of my Eheim canisters, although I do find the 22xx series a bit of a pain to clean. Go to the dollar store and get a cheap colander to hold and rinse your media in, as there are no baskets internal to the filter.

I've never owned a Sunsun but have seen them for sale often (mostly on eBay). My perception is that they are cheaply made, but that is only from the bias that they aren't expensive to purchase new compared to comparable filters from other manufacturers. I'd like to hear some first hand experiences with them.

Well, I did buy mine used. Either I have the numbers wrong or I got shorted a basket. My media sits in between pads that are like pot scrubbers. I have to empty the media out of the canister manually to be able to clean it.

None of my classics have baskets. . .

I have one SunSun and it's worked well for several years. If I could get it for $20 I'd do it, no doubt.

Sunsuns are well liked on plantedtank.net.... they even have a fan club devoted to them. Only problem that I have seen mentioned is some inconsistent manufacturing... which seems part-and-partial to cheaply made Chinese knockoffs. But with the price you pay for new, you could probably afford to have one poop out on you and have to get another.
