I received a couple of pairs of these Cichlasoma from Jeff Rapps. They are very different from the Cichlasoma amazonarum found in Peru, which leads me to believe they may not be C. amazonarum. They do have some similarity to the newly described (2011) Cichlasoma zarskei, which among other characteristics has a black lateral stripe that extends all the way to the caudal fin. The black lateral stripe in C. amazonarum fades out at about the middle of the body. I'm not sure what they are but I'm excited to have them as they are very beautiful. The upper half of the body is golden and the lower half pearly white. The photos don't really capture how attractive they are.
