Caution: Whole lot of gloating going on-

Wandered over to Suthin Joisey (did I say it right?) today (didn't realize Children of the Corn were real) and made out like a big dog. Four Corydoas 'super' arcuatus (WOOF!), five juvenile KK platinum blue angels (WOOF-WOOF!), a couple strains of fancy guppies (MEOW - groaning aside these are pretty amazing), and the creme de la creme, a pair of Scleromystax macropterus (AARROOOOOOOOOOOUU!). For the unenlightened, this is merely and probably the rarest and most unobtainable known Corydoras-type species on the planet given that Brazil banned export of this species many years ago.

Hail!Hail! to my benefactor, one Frank Falcone (a.k.a. "Coryologist" and soon to be 'Guppyman") who in condensing his fish room of 20+ years allowed me to abscond with some of his by my way of thinking most exalted acquisitions. In deciding to focus on devoting himself to just doing what he loves, Frank pared down the number of species he keeps and has poured the extra time and energy thus available into overhauling his fishroom. It was always amazing but now it's sort of 'singing in that during the four hours I was there I think five different species of uncommon to rare Corydoras laid eggs - just another day at the office, eh?

Anyway, I'm stoked, more so as it was 20 years ago that I got it in my head that I really wanted a shot at spawning macropterus (granted I did take about a 15 year hiatus from the hobby/lifestyle/obsession in there) and almost that long for the super arcuatus. Already had/have 4 of the latter but a school of 8 is about 10 times cooler (and hopefully fecund) than just four.

Alright, so maybe you don't have this strain of the/our common malady/disease/affliction, but you probably know what it's like to have a long-term 'Jones' satisfied. Times two (almost three with the angels). :D
Well that was today. Now if you'll pardon me, I have to go scheme about fomenting some historic-if-it-occurs piscine copulation, or a reasonable facsimile thereof (Corydoras owners will understand).

Some anyway - now about that 'turnpike'?! Sheesh. To be routinely shaken down on a federal interstate for the privilege of wading through traffic backed up 20 miles by the toll (shakedown) plazas. Positively criminal - what ever happened to 'Don't Tread on Me'? Seems more like 'Don't Tread too Lightly on Me'. :D

Just high on life...

...you should get off those meds and give it a try. :D

Of all people - would have thought that someone who's no stranger to gong to extremes for mere fish would appreciate the sentiment.

Can't really say...

...do know i hail from parts of this country far colder ( and with far smaller tax-bases) and there aren't any tolls on the highways. Other than short sections in Chicago and Oklahoma/Kansas, pretty much a NE sort of thing. Have no idea about Connecticut but claiming they're even worse seems pretty faint praise. And today there was no EZ anything, although I will confess that was in MD not NJ, so you may consider your fair state as well as your professional legacy unimpugned - at least in the context of this discussion. :D

Fifteen miles of BS because they have a mere six booths for four lanes of traffic. Right. Wouldn't take a rocket scientists to rate that as a cold calculation for inciting road rage and wasting prodigious amounts of time, petrol and clutch plates.

Awwww, you deleted your first reply. No fair. But since when does blowing smoke rate as complaining? Especially from a literalist like me?

I have wondered that myself, George!!! The prose that comes out of that keyboard is uncompreensible sometimes. Just my 2 cents

Is that supposed to be comic relief? :D

Thanks, but based solely on today's empirical evidence, that absolutely qualifies as fictitious propaganda. All those EZ folks had to grind along like everyone else except for the last 200 meters. Anyway, wasn't meant to be anything but a sideline in the thread - I'm all for 'pay as you play' roadways and maintenance and don't even really resent paying the tolls any more, I just don't like being additionally punished because them what designed it and manage it seem to think that an easily remedied 20 mile long gridlock is a routinely necessary evil.

Just focusing on the fish part of this thread, congratulations! That's a very cool haul. Frank Falcone definitely has done some impressive things breeding corys and other fish.
