Fry him up and you've got some good eatin' right there. :)
I wouldn't eat anything that I pulled out of the Potomac, particularly a catfish. Looks like a yellow bullhead aka mudcat, and a nice one for the species. They don't grow huge like channel cats or blues.

That's what I thought, too, at first. But look at the fork in the tail. Bullheads have square tails. I'm thinking it's a channel cat, even though I've never seen one that color before.

I like fishing for bottom feeders. I've had some good battles pulling in carp and catfish.

That's really cool Andrew!!!

I took my mongrels to a pond Sunday, they SLAYED the "brim"!!! I was to busy releasing fish/baiting hooks to take pictures but I sure wish I woulda made time.

Tell the nephew congrats on a nice cat ;)

I had to look up the tail too and came to the conclusion; it's a nice young channel cat.

Of course, the only way to be really sure is to go back and get more...

I didn't notice the tail, but channel cats are the only ones with forked tails. Way back, about 20 years ago, I used to go fishing in the Shenendoah River when I worked down in Front Royal. Caught a 31" mudcat one night, but the best fishing was right below the power company dam.
I was only there once, but between me and one other guy we caught 14 channel cats, 2 largemouth bass big enough to keep, a handful of sunfish, and a carp that had broken someone else's line and got tangled up in mine. The carp wasn't more than half the size of a couple of the channel cats, but it took me 45 minutes to reel the bugger in. We were wading along the front of the dam, and literally every few feet we'd hook another channel cat. It wasn't the same ones either, they were put on a stringer as we went along.

I AGREE I WOULDNT EVEN MESS WITH THE POTOMAC PERIOD LET ALONE EAT ANYTHING OUT OF THERE. 1-2 YRS AGO THE LOCAL NEWS DID A REPORT ON THE FISH IN THE RIVER HAVING DUAL SEXES WHICH ONLY COMES FROM POLLUTION. NOW NOTHING BEATS HANGING WITH DAD FISHING . WELL DONE. ;)
