Some fish do eat while holding. She may or may not end up swalling the fry/eggs.
I just wanted to add --- When I feed, I look for fish that are not eating or acting like they are eating, that is often times the first indication that a fish is holding (can't always tell by looking).

Agree with maddog. Some do eat, but not all of them are good at it. Cyprichromis from lake tanganyika are particularly good at it. They'll have an easier time with soft or flake foods rather than pellets.
