Calvus Question

I have 10 yellow calvus. I have had them since October and they are finally getting some size to them.

7 of them have colored up yellow but I have three that have remained dark like they did when I first got them. Now these three hang out by the dark colored rocks I have while the other 7 hang out around the shells and the white sand.

So the question basically is are these three dark because of trying to blend in with the rocks or is there something else going on?

I have not seen any aggression yet so I don't think they are starting to pair up and chase off any of the competition although I am expecting that any time now.

Ditto to what Caleb said...

It all depends on the hierachy of the group. I have a 6 inch yellow calvus... that most of the time looks like a black calvus. The only way you can really tell are the fins.

Caleb and Sarah,

Thank you. I was hoping that was it.

When I first received them they actually look like white calvus but after a few days they started looking yellow. They were in a 20 gallon with sand and shells back then ( they were only 1/2' then) now in a 55 with Sand shells and rocks.

I'm not planning on keeping them all at least not in the 55. My plan was/is to get one pair/trio and then sell the remaining ones or possibly set up a second tank with a second pair.
