I just finished The Soul of an Octopus: A Surprising Exploration into the Wonder of Consciousness, by Sy Montgomery. I thought it was great.
The book looks at octopuses (octopi is not a word, since octopus comes from Greek, not Latin) in a variety of ways, but mostly through Montgomery's visit to the New England Aquarium, in Boston, scuba diving, and the Seattle Aquarium. There's a fair amount of science in the book, but Montgomery makes it easily accessible. Of note, some of the other folks dealing with the octopuses at the New England Aquarium have, surprise, lots of aquariums in their homes! There are also some references to freshwater fish, including cichlids.
You'll come away convinced that octopuses are incredibly intelligent and interesting creatures. You may even want to start a saltwater tank, but don't get an octopus. They can escape from any tank and, sadly, they only live a few years, at most.
