Hey Folks,

I need an order for Blackworms in by no later than 9 AM of the Monday before the meeting, which would be the 8th. So, you've got until then to tell me how much worms you want. :)

I'm offering two different price levels. The first is a "pre-payment" price. This is if you pay in advance, via PayPal (by 9 AM on the monday before the meeting); send PayPal to BatfishAquatics@gmail.com. The second price is if you pay at the meetings. You may pay by cash or card, but cards are subject to a 3% convenience fee (at the meetings).

Pre Pay Prices
1/4 Pound: $7
1/2 Pound: $11
1 Pound: $20

Pay At Meeting
1/4 Pound: $7
1/2 Pound: $12
1 Pound: $22

Please order by 9 AM on Monday the eighth.

Please note that this is the last month we'll be doing blackworms by the pound. After some discussion, I will be repricing them from here on out per CUP. The price will remain the SAME, I'll just be converting, once I figure out how many cups a pound of worms is. This is just to facilitate selling them, as I won't have to weigh bags and add/subtract globs of worms until I get to the right measurement -- I can just fill a one-cup container. It will not be the same one I use when I make brownies, never fear. :)

I agree, I have a growing stingray who will onlhy eat live blackworms so I would love to find a way to not have to be going to congressional and spending $4 a week on worms (not that having an excuse to go to an lfs is a bad thing :))
you can get worm keepers. similar to what the petstores hold theirs in and rinse once every few days or so...Josh, u able to get those?
I've never heard of those but they sound cool
Is there a way to keep them long term without one?

When I worked at tfw, we kept them in plastic tubs in the fridge and rinsed them 3-4x every morning.

If you're talking about the really nice little blue things with a mesh screen that sits inside of a tub, no one has them. Apparently, the company that makes them lost their mould, and decided not to make any new ones. I've been working with a plastics manufacturer to produce an improved washer of my own design, but it hasn't become available just yet. :)

In the meantime, go to the dollar store, and buy either a cat's litter pan or a wash tub (They're about the same size). Put up to two pounds of worms in it. Add just enough COLD and DECHLORINATED water to cover the worms, and keep the refrigerated. Ideally, you should aerate them as well. (Hint: you'll have lower electric bills if you put an airpump in the fridge, blowing cold air on them, than if you run airline tubing into the fridge, and thereby make it "leak".).

Once or twice daily, take the worms and pour them into a fine mesh net. Rinse them under cold tap water until they come clean. Put them back in the container, and add fresh, cold, dechlorinated water. That's the easiest way. The better way, though, is to pour cold water on them, still in the tray, swirl them heavily, and pour the water out. Repeat until the water runs clear, then add dechlorinated water (the brief exposure doesn't seem to hurt them). THis removes the dead worms and larger particles.
