I put my new-found "stripping" skills to work last night. My big benga peacock female who had been holding (legitimate) babies for a while -- and boy was her mouth HUGE -- starting spitting last night. I noticed the all-night buffet going on and decided to spring into action, even though I usually allow spitting in the tank and depend on the fry to hid in the rocks I provide them.
I quickly set up the exterior breeding box I got through a group order recently, grabbed the mama, made her spit most (although not all) the babies and returned her to the tank no worse for wear. About 20 benga babies are now in their own little baby tank with some anubias and floating water lettuce with very long roots for hiding. All made it through the night. I'm feeding them Fry Bites and will pick up some frozen BBS tonight. I did see some darting around of babies in the main tank this morning, so we'll see if any survive. Since I won't have room for all the fry, they'll be in the auction at some point. They are a CARES fish
